yes,
it's summer on the Costa del Sol. So where do you go to escape the crowds and
enjoy good food "al fresco"? Here are a few insider secrets! Mezzo
Mezzo is all about seriously good food, innovatively presented. Glorious summer
terrace garden for al fresco dining, it's one of my favourite places to dine under
the stars. Fish and meat cooked to perfection and the modern, creamy design is
comfortably minimalist - can we have more Mezzos in Marbella? Owner Farshid and
his wife are excellent hosts and the menu changes regularly so there's always
something new. Tel: +34 952 900 230 Kudu Head up into
the hills of La Mairena where the views are to die for - high up in this beautiful
forested area eagles soar overhead and on warm summer nights the soundtrack is
a mix of chill out music, frogs croaking and birds chirping. Bliss. While the
food is OK the menu is limited so best to have a nice glass of wine or two at
Kudu then move on to somewhere else for dinner
.like the brand new Messina
Restaurant next door perhaps? Messina Run by a young couple passionate
about creative cuisine, the original Messina is in Marbella. Now they're expanding
- same experimental menu this time served with fabulous views. The chef conjures
wonderful food flavours and textures that are out of this world. Reservations:
Tel: +34 952 86 48 95 Villa Tropical New and stylish private
beach restaurant serving delicious grilled fish and meats, super fresh salads
(the Villa Tropical salad is huge - king prawns, salmon, papaya, guava, kiwi on
a bed of salad leaves). Delicious desserts (I dare you to resist the chocolate
truffles or walnut mousse!) Good wine list, good prices. Indoor and outdoor seating
where you can dine in the sea breeze a few steps from the water. After lunch,
why not stay for the day and rent a sunlounger on the pretty beach next to the
restaurant? (Access under the tunnel at Faro de las Calaburras, near km 206).
Also open for dinner. Reservations: +34 657 505 590 The Beach
House Due to open before Christmas when a fire damaged the premises, the
owners made lemonade out of lemons and redesigned the premises so now every table
at this beachy, California-style restaurant has a view of the sea. A lovely location
right on the sand, down a quiet road. The menu features everything from duck with
ginger to classic entrecote. Good wines. There's even a small terrace if you just
fancy reading the paper over a cup of coffee. Tel: +034 952 83 94 58 So
