Originally a charming old fishing pueblo, although now a bustling
village, La Cala de Mijas still retains a lot of its original
identity with its small fisherman's cottages and small tapas bars,
restaurants and chiringitos. La Cala is not on the "Tourist
route" but is centrally situated to all the amenities of
the Costa del Sol. Being only 20 minutes from Malaga International
Airport, 15 minutes from Marbella and only 5 minutes from the
hustle and bustle of Fuengirola, with all the amenities you could
possibly wish for including the longest promenade in Southern
Spain.
La Cala is well renowned for its excellent safe golden sandy
beaches and the warm Mediterranean sea which is ideal for families
with children. Also close by for a family is the water park in
Fuengirola for a terrific day out in the sun.
A new marina is also scheduled to be built in La Cala and has
already been approved by the Junta de Andalucia. This will increase
popularity in the area and thus will increase property prices
in the area significantly.
For golf lovers, La Cala is the perfect location as is situated
within the "Triangle of Golf" district with numerous
golf courses within 10 minutes of each other. These include the
prestigious Santana Golf and Country Club, set in an exclusive
development of villas and a small complex of luxury apartments,
set amidst its superb 18 hole golf course. Close by is the ever
popular Mijas Golf with its two 18 hole golf course and soon to
include a third 18 hole Championship course.
ithin the urbanization lies the 5 Star Byblos hotel with all
of its amenities including swimming pool, Spa, and tennis courts.
Also within the triangle of golf lies the La Cala Golf Resort,
Calanova Golf, El Chapperal and Alhaurin Golf and also for beginners
or just to practice is the 9 hole par 3 La Noria Golf, so plenty
to be getting on with.
