Malaga Province is Art Lovers' Paradise

Although the world-class exhibitions are being staged in the city of Malaga, art galleries in Marbella, Mijas, Fuengirola and elsewhere at the Costa del Sol needn't be worried that art lovers might overlook what they're offering. From Marbella to the city of Malaga, the province is an art lover's paradise even in winter, with a mouth-watering array of exhibitions currently taking place.

Here's what's still on show in Marbella:

38 Picassos and a Sprinkling of Bacon, Freud and School of London

Meanwhile, Malaga's famous Pablo Picasso Museum is running two exceptional exhibitions this year that should have fans of 20th century art salivating in anticipation. Open from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm every day of the week, Malaga's much-loved museum is showing 38 paintings by Picasso until 26th March 2017 that were created between 1903 and 1972, spanning almost the entire creative life of the artist. This special exhibition proves, if proof were needed, how versatile and prolific Picasso was and how his themes and artworks evolved over the decades. The exhibition includes the small oil painting “Acrobat” from 1930, and many paintings depicting members of his family, such as his children by Marie-Thérèse and Françoise Gilot for example. These paintings are new loans and have not been shown at the Museum before.

Works of Bacon, Freud and School of London artists will be on show at the museum from 26th April to 17th September 2017. What these artists have in common is that they're paintings are centred on the human figure, showing us a vision of everyday life and landscape in the 20th century. The artworks convey both the vitality, but also vulnerability of the human condition. Translating life into art by exploring new styles and artistic approaches, these artists reinvented the way in which the human form and the human condition were shown on canvas in a post-war world.

The exhibition includes works by Francis Bacon, Lucien Freud, Michael Andrews and Frank Auerbach, David Bomberg, William Coldstream, R B Kitaj and Leon Kossof, Paula Rego and Euan Uglow. The exhibition is a collaboration between Museo Pablo Picasso Malaga and Tate London. Among the highlights is Lucien Freud's “Girl with a White Dog” (1950-1951).
