Malaga Province's most spacious Park for Las Lagunas

Nov 18, 2016
People already living in Mijas and house buyers visiting the Costa del Sol in search of their dream home can look forward to yet another family attraction. Mijas Town Hall is planning to spend between 3.5 and 5 million euros to create the largest suburban park in Malaga Province.

Offering everything for a fantastic Family Day Out

The new park will be double the size of La Paloma Park in  Benalmádena and will boast woodland and formal gardens with fountains, cycle lanes and running tracks, a climbing wall and a skate park, kiosks, a boating lake with picturesque bridge, a pavilion and open-air theatre for concerts and theatre productions. Young visitors will get their own children's play area with water rides.

The overall theme, so Mijas Town Hall has revealed, will be traditional Andalucian with cultural references to the town itself. The new park will span 350,000 square metres, with works scheduled to begin in 2018 in the El Ahogadero part of Las Lagunas.

Juan Carlos Maldonado, the mayor of Mijas, confirmed in a media statement that the greater part of the funding for this ambitious project will be borne by Mjias Town Hall, although other parties will also be invited to provide financial support and participate in the project.

Mijas' mayor was supported at the presentation by town councillors José Carlos Martín, Roy Pérez and Andrés Ruiz, José Carlos Martín and Roy Pérez, who are between them responsible for Urban Planning, Infrastructure, Parks and Gardens.

Roy Pérez said:“This will be the biggest in the province and will be one of the best parks in Andalucía and all of Spain.”

The new park will have three car parks and two entrances, accessible from the old road to Coin and the race course's access road.

Mijas' mayor said that the new suburban park would become “the beating heart of the Costa del Sol and a new hallmark for Mjias”. He added: “The idea is that it will have everything for a family day out.”

Responding to foreign Tourism Specialists' Advice

All over Andalucia town halls are looking at new ways to promote their regions. This was evident from the recent World Travel fair held in London. Now Malaga has made its debut at a top London investment fair, hoping to attract even more businesses to the Costa del Sol. Thousands of people attended the opening days of the “Going Global” fair held at London's Olympia exhibition centre. For a country determined NOT to be part of Europe, there is clearly still an unfailing appetite for travel and overseas investment among city dwellers in London.

“Going Global” is an export and investment fair which a delegation from Malaga City Hall and Agencia Idea, Andalucia's regional agency for innovation and development, attended for the first time. The fair caters for companies hoping to expand internationally, set up overseas branches or export their products to other countries.

It's the leading fair of its kind in Europe and Malaga's delegation hopes to convince British owners of businesses that Malaga City and the province are an ideal place for investment. Since Britain's decision to leave the European Union earlier in June this year, the city of Malaga knows it must expand its activity to attract more investment and find ways in which to help UK companies that want to have at least a foothold in Spain, when Britain leaves the EU.

From Marbella to Mijas, from Malaga City to Ronda, every town hall is looking to improve what's there to cater for a very different future in the light of Brexit. Although Mijas' Town Hall plans for a huge suburban park are aimed primarily at local residents and future tourists, creating better urban environments is also aimed at foreign companies bringing overseas employees to the Costa del Sol.

Even if Brits should require a visa to live and work in Spain in the near future, they are still likely to want to buy a Spanish home rather than rent one for several years. And where better to buy than in a lovely suburban environment where a huge park invites people to spend quality time?
