Water Sport Heaven in Marbella and Fuengirola

Water Sport Heaven in Marbella and Fuengirola

Dec 12, 2014
The ports of Marbella and Fuengirola offer water sports enthusiasts a huge choice of activities. Whether one lives at the Costa del Sol permanently or owns a holiday home here no matter what the season, there will always be a new water sports craze waiting to be discovered.

Flyboard or hoverboard sessions are among the most expensive on offer, costing around 90.00 euros per person, but its hard to put a price on such a fun leisure activity - sailing through the azure skies of Marbella is an unforgettable experience!

From Dolphin Watching to Wakeboarding

Various operators are on call pretty much every day of the year, offering kitesurfing, windsurfing, rayboard, waterski, wakeboard and kneeboard, tube ride and bladefish sessions, boat hire and guided boat tours, fishing trips, sailing lessons, yacht charter, jet ski hire, scuba diving trips and the famous dolphin watching trips that start from Puerto Cabopino Marina, which lies a few miles to the east of Marbella.

A typical dolphin watch boat tour with a guide costs ca. 30.00 euros per person, while a waterski session costs ca. 60.00 euros per session.

Dolphins seem to enjoy the delights of Cabopino's shores as much as the people who buy a holiday home here, for the dolphins can be spotted regularly along this stretch of the Costa del Sol. The east of Marbella offers spectacular property choices with unrivalled sea views, wonderful sandy beaches and great local amenities, including several prestigious golf courses and the aforementioned luxury marina development.

Holiday Homes with Room to swing a Surfboard

The second-hand property sales market has picked up considerably over the last 12 months, although prices are still very affordable. A 2-bedroom luxury penthouse in Cabopino can be as little as 168,000 euros, boasting its own private sun terrace, air-conditioning and heating and wonderful views. Slightly more modest 2-bedroom apartments in Cabopino come at an asking price around 110,000 to 159,950, depending on how close they are to the beach, port and marina development.

Cabopino is just a short drive from central Marbella, where an abundance of nightlife amenities such as shopping, entertainment and dining awaits holidaymakers and residents alike. Marbella is also home to a number of water sport related clubs and societies.

Mid-way to Malaga and the Airport

The neighbouring resort of Fuengirola, popular with families and retired holidaymakers, offers quality property and a more sedate pace of life than Marbella does. The port also offers a multitude of water sport activities and long-term rentals during off peak season can be very lucrative.

Fuengirola property prices are still quite low and here foreign money buys quite a lot of "house". Town houses with 3 bedrooms and a nice little garden, terrace or patio start typically at around 265,000 euros and there is a wide choice on the market, especially in the area of Torreblanca, which is located slightly lower than the rest of Fuengirola, making it easier for retirees to get about on foot.

Most town house developments are located within easy walking distance of the beach and shopping, dining out and Fuengirola's other amenities. Townhouses tend to be divided into two or three levels, so have internal staircases buyers should take into account, when contemplating the purchase of a retirement home. Villas tend to have just one level, like bungalows.

Town houses are typically located within a landscaped development that boasts various communal amenities, including a shared swimming pool, sometimes even a gym.

Seafront apartments with great view across to the African coast and within a short walk of the Casino Torrequebranda also start at around 265,000 euros. Set in subtropical gardens, where adults and children can enjoys splashing about in separate swimming pools, these residential developments usually come with a whole range of onsite amenities, including children's play areas. Apartments and penthouses here have 2 or 3 bedrooms and come complete with their own private sun terraces.

Other popular developments in Fuengirola include Los Pacos, a residential area located just 1 km from the Torreblanca train station and 1.3 km from the beach. Fuengirola lies half-way between Malaga and Marbella, making the resort easily accessible by air, train and coach.
